Making room for more voices.
People have always wanted to express what they think and find out what others believe. ToggleVox is an attempt to make both activities simpler.
A different kind of question-and-answer app
Our planned app will present questions about subjects affecting everyday life: local developments, national priorities, culture, society and international affairs. You can choose to answer, skip or revisit an earlier answer.
We use the provisional terms Toggle for an initial response and ReToggle for revisiting a response—whether to confirm it or change it.
Discover, without having to argue
Public discussion sometimes feels confrontational. Our aim is to make it possible to have a voice without requiring participation in a debate. Responses can contribute to a shared picture of what participating people think.
The service is intended to be editorially independent. We plan to review suggested questions for clarity, neutrality and relevance.
A history with context
Opinion becomes more interesting when viewed over time. We plan to let participants see their personal history and relate the public results of questions to verifiable events associated with each issue.
For example, a question about town-centre redevelopment may become more interesting as plans are published, revised and implemented.
Credibility matters
Early results can honestly describe ToggleVox participants, but that is not the same as measuring a representative sample of a town or nation. We intend to investigate coverage, response-selection effects and statistical validation before making broader population claims.
Private by design
We are designing participant accounts around passkeys, without requiring civil names, postal addresses, email addresses or telephone numbers. Public summaries should not disclose private individual response histories. Optional emails about the project would be kept separate from participant accounts.
Where we are now
ToggleVox is currently in development for iOS and Android. The website is informational: it does not yet accept votes, create participant accounts or collect mailing-list registrations.
